Study probes audio conferencing endpoints market

The demand for audio conferencing endpoints in the global market is shifting from traditional time-division multiplexing (TDM)/Internet protocol (IP) conference phones to products with more specialized use cases, says Frost & Sullivan.

Emerging audio conferencing endpoint vendors are rapidly gaining market share by capitalizing on this transition and posing a challenge to incumbents with their innovative products and aggressive marketing campaigns.

New analysis from the firm entitled Global Audio Conferencing Endpoints Market, has found that the market earned revenues of US$364.9 million in 2014 and estimates this to reach US$579.2 million by 2021.

The study covers tabletop and installed audio conferencing endpoints. Tabletop audio conferencing endpoints are further segmented into TDM, voice over IP (VoIP) and universal serial bus (USB)/alternative connectivity endpoints.


“The TDM and VoIP segments experienced a decline in revenue in 2014, mainly due to a considerable fall in the number of TDM endpoints, tough economic conditions in some regions of the world and poor financial results of two major tabletop vendors,” said Frost & Sullivan unified communications and collaboration industry manager Alaa Saayed. “While the VoIP segment is expected to recover from the revenue slump in a few years, the TDM segment will remain on a downward trajectory over the forecast period.”

Traditional vendors can reverse this market slide to some extent by developing more specialized personal and room audio conferencing endpoints to cater to the needs of smarter personal and group work environments, the research firm said.

“Bandwidth-intensive video conferencing solutions require intelligent and network-linked installed audio conferencing systems for the effective management of audio, video and data traffic on the network,” noted Saayed. “This, along with the growing demand for unified communications-enabled conference phones and the worldwide presence of an estimated 30 million huddle rooms for ad-hoc and scheduled meetings, is rapidly changing the landscape of the audio conferencing endpoints market.”
