SaskTel has launched the SaskTel Converged Desktop service, a collaborative multimedia communications service that seamlessly integrates advanced features such as desktop video calling, network based contacts management, and real-time call handling with a business’s existing telephone system.
“SaskTel’s Converged Desktop service allows business customers to enhance productivity and reduce costs by replacing multiple communications applications with a single secure solution that takes advantage of the customer’s existing network,” said SaskTel President and CEO Robert Watson. “Converged Desktop service provides a solution to mobile workers and telecommuters as services are available over nearly any broadband connection.
Customers can access Converged Desktop from a hotel room, airport or Internet caf with a laptop and headset, or they can use a Web-based client from any computer with Internet access in the world.
SaskTel Converged Desktop is based on the Nortel Multimedia Communication Server (MCS) 5200 and Communication Server 2000 (CS) softswitch. This carrier-grade solution provides SaskTel’s customers with a network architecture capable of evolving current services in an incremental “line at a time” fashion.
