Avaya Inc. today released specialized security consulting services and new customer financial analysis tools that respond to enterprise customers’ growing need to protect information and enhance investments in multi-vendor converged networks and applications.
The Avaya Enterprise Security Practice provides an internal/external approach to network security with assessment, policy development and design to simultaneously address vulnerabilities across communications networks (voice PBX and Internet-Protocol telephony, data, video and wireless) and converged applications (customer relationship management, unified communication, interactive voice response).
“New points of exposure are being introduced to the converged, corporate network as enterprises deploy more devices to users, such as PDAs and cell phones, and IP-enable their communications channels, said Allan Carey, program manager for information security services at consulting firm IDC Corp. "These new areas of vulnerability must be properly assessed and mitigated to ensure continuous protection and operation of an enterprise’s critical infrastructure."
Network security breaches are significantly on the rise, from approximately 22,000 in 2000 to an expected 100,000 in 2002, as reported by the CERT Coordination Center.
Avaya security consultants work with enterprises to minimize external and internal vulnerabilities on any vendor’s communications systems, applications and access points. Internally, these experts analyze operating system/application vulnerabilities or misconfigurations and look for poor authentication systems and passwords. They also analyze external perimeters such as firewalls and other access points that commonly have been the focus of network security.
